GATE/Gifted Education
Southridge Middle School offers a comprehensive, articulated program for gifted students in grades 6-8. Our program is provided by teachers who have a great deal of experience working with gifted students and is designed to meet the unique needs of gifted students by providing depth, complexity and novelty within the core curriculum.

During the regular school day we offer honors classes in all content areas (language arts, math, science and social studies), at all grade levels, including Pre-Algebra in 6th grade, Algebra I in 7th grade and Geometry in 8th grade, for those students who qualify. The makeup of these classes consists of GATE students and high-achieving students. We also offer a wide array of elective classes, including art, computers, educational technology, leadership/ASB, yearbook, band, choir and exploring music.

Additionally, we offer a variety of after school GATE enrichment classes. This year, students at Southridge have the option to participate in the following: "Meet the Masters" (art), Norton Simon Museum Field Trip, Ocean/Science (including a trip to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point), Strings Class, Digital Scrapbooking, Culinary Arts, Italian Street Painters, and a Theatrical Arts Assembly. Our gifted students also participate in additional enrichment activities, such as Writing Showcase, History Day, Science Fair and Math Field Day.

We are pleased to offer a variety of courses - both during and after the regular school day - that extend, challenge and enrich the learning of our gifted and talented students. If you have additional questions or would like more information, please contact Teacher Cindy Gray, our GATE Site Coordinator, at 357-5420 or e-mail - Cindy Gray.
