Band
Southridge Middle School offers two band classes taught by Mrs. Dvorak-Torres.  Beginning Band is for students who have never played an instrument before or who have only played for 1 year.  Advanced Band is for students who have played their instrument proficiently for at least 1 year.  Band is a year-long elective class dedicated to playing an instrument.

The purpose of band is to learn the fundamentals of music and apply them through performance.  During the year, the students focus on the California Music Content Standards, which include:
  • Reading and writing musical notation
  • Listening, analyzing, and describing music 
  • Applying musical skills through performance in concerts
  • Understanding the role of music in the past and present cultures throughout the world
  • Instrument care and maintenance
