Extended Learning Opportunities
Southridge recognizes that many students need additional time and support in order to learn, which we provide through extended learning opportunities that take place before and after school, during off-track time (intersession) and on the weekends.

Southridge Middle School offers a variety of extended learning programs that are designed to assist students not meeting state proficiency standards in language arts and math. Current programs include the following:

Individual Teacher Tutoring: Individual and small group tutoring is offered before and after school, and based upon individual learning needs.  Students and families should contact individual teachers to ask about availability.

Homework Center: Homework Center provides students with a quiet, supportive environment in the library, three days a week after school. One certificated teacher is available to provide assistance as needed on homework assignments or school projects.

After-School University (ASU): ASU is designed to provide short-term math and/or language arts support to college-bound students who need to get back on track with learning.  Students are enrolled in the program via a special registration process, after being referred by teachers.  ASU classes meet twice a week for an hour each day after school.

Saturday Academic Success: (schedule varies).  Approximately one time each month, a certificated teacher provides 2-3 hours of math and language arts instruction.  Students are referred by Administration and Counselors.  Those who have multiple absences receive instruction to make up for missed class time/learning. Students referred to the program as a result of poor behavior participate in character education activities.

Off-Track Intersession: students receive 40 hours of instruction over a two-week period (between trimesters). Instruction is provided by a certificated teacher who provides remediation and front-loading of skills/subject area content for upcoming class lessons in language arts and math. Students at the Far Below Basic and Below Basic levels on the district’s assessment matrix are given first priority and encouraged to attend.

ELAP (English Language Acquisition Program): The ELAP program provides after-school English language development instruction for English Learners. Instruction focuses on increasing proficiency with the English language.
