Attendance
Absences/Attendance
We miss students when they are gone! Good attendance is critical to learning and students can never make up the classroom instruction that they miss, when absent. Please make an effort to have your child at school every day, on time and ready to learn – we appreciate your support! The following information will help familiarize you with attendance policies and procedures at Southridge Middle School.

Students are required by California law to attend school regularly and promptly. If a student is absent from school, parents are responsible for notifying the attendance clerk at (909)357-5420 ext. 208 (hablamos español). When students return, notes about absences should be turned in to the attendance office before school or during 1st period. Please try to schedule all medical/dental appointments after school. Also, be aware that multiple unexcused absences and tardies are considered truancies. Parents can also clear absences online through our website, please click HERE to clear an absence online.

State law dictates which absences qualify as excused absences. The following reasons are considered excused absences:
  • Student illness or injury
  • Emergency medical or dental treatment
  • Death in the immediate family
  • Court Appearance
All other absences are considered unexcused. School starts at 7:25 a.m. and all students are to be in their seats before the tardy bell rings at 7:30 a.m. Students not in their seats will be considered tardy. Frequent tardies and absences will result in disciplinary action, as follows:

Independent Study:
If your child will be absent from school for five (5) days or more please make arrangements with the Independent Study (ISP) Coordinator to get work while they are out. This will enable them to stay current with their class work and learning, and to avoid unexcused absences. The ISP Coordinator must be notified 2-3 days prior to the first day of the absence. You can contact the attendance clerk at (909) 357-5420 x 208 to set up an Independent Study meeting or e-mail teacher Brian Bolda (ISP Coordinator) directly through this website.
